Reflections from Community Spiritual Director — Eddie Suttles
Mat 17:20 And Jesus said unto them‚ Because of your unbelief: for
verily I say unto you‚ If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye
shall say unto this mountain‚ Remove hence to yonder place; and it
shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
The scripture above is a very interesting one. This man had brought his son
to the disciples asking for help. But the disciples were unable cast the devil
out of the son. So when the father brought him to Jesus he explained that he
had brought him to his followers‚ his disciples‚ but they were unable to help
him. Now take notice‚ Jesus did not say that the disciples could not help
because of a lack of faith‚ he said you only need faith the size of a mustard
seed. Problem was identified as UNBELIEF. Definition for unbelief: lack of
belief in God.
Israel was unable to enter the promised land because of unbelief. Not that
God had failed to provide‚ a land‚ a place‚ a way. No… they failed to enter
because they focused more on the obstacles rather than how great their God
is. As sons and daughters of God in the Emmaus community‚ there will be
times when you FEEL like you are reaching out beyond what you are comfortable
to do. That is ok; all you need is mustard seed size faith. God will
provide the way. What He wants us to do is believe His promises are true.
Just do not allow voices to creep in and tell you that you cannot. Unbelief
will rob you‚ as it did the disciples. The hope is Christ in you. So as people
come asking for direction in life‚ don’t focus on our lack‚ focus on His promise.
